Hello, I'm Garick Mendez. I'm an Austin-based Software Engineer with 2+ years of professional experience and internships since 2021. I build fast, accessible web apps that businesses run on, from customer platforms to internal tools. My main stack is Next.js (TypeScript), Django (Python), and Tailwind CSS.
About me
I've been building software since 2021, starting with SAP internships for ERP Chile in Santiago, Chile. After graduating from St. Edward's University in May 2024 with a degree in computer science and a minor in business, I spent two years as the sole front-end developer at Jeff Martin Auctioneers, where I helped replace a legacy ERP with an intuitive system that staff of every technical level can use to run day-to-day operations.
Now I'm going deeper on the backend by auditing, testing, and optimizing Django REST APIs at Hunt Safe Technologies. The business side shows up in how I work, I like talking with the people who will use what I build, presenting progress and new ideas to them, and making sure it actually makes their job easier.
Outside of code, I compose and produce my own music, watch soccer, and explore Austin's concerts and food scene with my wife. I'm also fully bilingual in English and Spanish.

Back-End Intern
Austin, TX
At Hunt Safe Technologies, I'm expanding into backend engineering after two years of leading front-end work. I designed and ran a security audit of HuntSync's 152-endpoint Django/PostgreSQL REST API, confirming defects in 68 endpoints, including 19 high-risk payment and safety flows, and grew the pytest suite by 547 tests covering Stripe payments, billing, and SMS webhooks.
2026 - NowFront-End Developer
Austin, TX
As the sole front-end developer at Jeff Martin Auctioneers, I led the replacement of a legacy ERP with a Dockerized Next.js and TypeScript system, building 176 React components across 83 pages and working with 3 backend engineers on REST API design for 8 services. I interviewed staff and leadership to shape Figma designs, owned 2 WCAG accessibility epics, maintained a 50+ test Vitest suite, and built a WebSocket-powered live auction display with Dolby livestreaming.
2024 - 2026Lead Guest Relations Agent
Austin, TX
At St. Edward's University, I was promoted to Lead Guest Relations Agent within a year, training 6+ new student staff and running scheduling and project planning for a team of 4. I coordinated directly with the Assistant Director of Events on 15+ third-party arrivals across 25+ event spaces and 200+ setups, resolved issues on call in English and Spanish, and contributed to $400K+ in conference revenue and 500+ events over two years.

At Cooledtured, an e-commerce company, I refactored a legacy front end into a modern React, TypeScript, GraphQL, and Tailwind UI on a Shopify Hydrogen headless storefront, building new components and pages, resolving 9 tickets, and reviewing code across 15 pull requests alongside senior engineers and designers.

At Renzoe Box, an Austin beauty-tech startup, I supported CRUD work in a React, Flask, and SQL stack and AWS infrastructure (Amplify, S3, Lambda) under senior engineers, and cut post-release defects by 50% through linting, Git-based code reviews, and documentation across 8 sprints.
